Task Force for Detectable Warnings

E-mail blast

The Division of the State Architect (DSA) requests local jurisdiction involvement in a task force to address the certification program for detectable warnings and directional surfaces in California. Government Code (GC) 4460 requires that DSA select a 3rd party certification program which provides a 2-year certification of detectable warnings and directional surfaces.

DSA, in consultation with HCD, will convene the Task Force for Detectable Warnings (TFDW) which will provide DSA with recommendations relating to the selection of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Product Evaluations & Audit Solutions Program for Detectable Warning System to meet statutory requirements of GC section 4460. The first meeting is intended to occur in August of 2024. Meetings are not required to be in accordance with Bagley-Keene Open Meetings Act.

All participation will be on a volunteer basis and meetings are expected to be primarily virtual but a meeting space at DSA HQ in Sacramento will be used if in person attendance is desired or necessary. The TFDW will meet regularly as needed to establish the certification standard. Meetings will continue until DSA completes its study and determines the appropriate testing standard for the evaluation program in accordance with statutory requirements.

Please notify DSA of your interest in participating no later than Friday, July 26, 2024. You may notify Kirklyn Cox, Senior Architect, DSA Headquarters, Accessibility Unit at kirklyn.cox@dgs.ca.gov or 279-799-3727 and Michelle Davis at michelle.davis@dgs.ca.gov or 279-799-3835.
