Construction Details & Schedules
Section 106.3.2 of the 2001 California Building Code – sets the requirements for the amount of information, which is needed on a plan. This sections states that plans and specifications shall be drawn to scale upon substantial paper and shall be of sufficient clarity to indicate the location, nature and extent of the work proposed and show in “detail” that it conforms to the provisions of this code and all relevant laws and ordinances.
In particular, this section of the code allows the Building Official to require any level information or detail in order to augment the plans. As a result, it is very common for design professionals to include several pages of details in order to clarify specific areas of the plans as necessary. These details are typically enlarged sections of foundation systems, structural connections, electrical systems, plumbing systems and mechanical systems. These details are referenced throughout the plan by page and detail number.
