Leadership and Advocacy Day
Leadership & Advocacy Day 2009
April 28, 2009
Location: TBD - Sacramento
Expanding upon CALBO’s first four years of success, the Forth Annual Leadership & Advocacy Day will be held in
Sacramento
on Tuesday, April 28, 2009. Next April, CALBO leadership, members and delegates will be invited to meet with elected state officials in the State Capitol to promote CALBO’s legislative agenda and the best interests of local
California
building departments.
This one-day event serves as
CALBO’s opportunity to promote
responsible public policy and
legislation applicable to code
enforcement, local government and
public safety at the state level. By
meeting with the elected officials
that represent CALBO members
throughout the state, we are working
to build connections in
Sacramento
while working to educate those who
make decisions that affect the work
of local building departments each
day.
In 2008, CALBO leadership lobbied
pertinent issues of importance to
local building departments,
including disabled access
compliance, code adoption and green
building practices. The overarching
theme of 2008’s Leadership &
Advocacy Day was the importance of
the Regulatory Process as opposed to
the Legislative Process.
Regulations, as opposed to
legislative or statutory laws, are
more responsive to changes in
technology and industry practices.
In addition to enhancing building
safety, this flexibility allows
regulations to remain current with
evolving, and improving, building
design and construction
technologies. This message was
carried out to over 60 elected
leaders in 2008.
